Mulock Park

Tom supported the purchase and preservation of this iconic site, with the 16-acre park opening in September 2026. The park features a restored Mulock residence, skating trail, community spaces, a water feature, an artist-in-residence program, and gardens.

Mulock Drive Multi-Use Path

Tom worked with regional and Town staff to deliver a six-kilometre multi-use path along Mulock Drive, from Bathurst Street to Harry Walker Parkway, which opened in July 2026.

New Tennis Club

In 2025, the Keith Davis Tennis Centre bubbled tennis courts and clubhouse opened, offering a state-of-the-art facility with 10 courts, including eight domed for indoor play.

New Pickleball Facility

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in Newmarket and to meet growing local demand, construction is underway on what will be Canada’s largest municipally-owned pickleball facility. Located at George Richardson Park, the courts and clubhouse are expected to be completed in 2027.

New Sport Pad – Environmental Park

In 2025, the Town opened a new sport pad in Ward 7, providing pickleball and basketball courts that encourage active living and community connection.

In 2025, a new sport pad opened in Ward 4, providing pickleball and basketball courts that encourage active living and community connection.

New Clifford Perry Trail and Boardwalk

Located in the northwest area of town near Woodspring Avenue and Bathurst Street, the Clifford Perry Boardwalk provides an immersive, above-ground forest experience that supports well-being, accessibility, and environmental protection.

New Stackhouse Trail

A new nature trail is planned around Stackhouse Pond near Stackhouse Road, designed as a recreational space for local business employees. The trail will feature benches and potential parking, with construction expected to begin this year.

Environmental Sustainability

As an Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority Board Director, Tom supported the protection of more than 2,000 acres of environmentally-sensitive land. To mitigate climate change, he supported tree-planting programs, updating floodplains, and stormwater upgrades to protect homes from flooding. In 2025, he brought forward a motion for the Town of Newmarket to support provincial salt-use guidelines to reduce chloride runoff into streams, rivers, and Lake Simcoe.

Reducing Emissions With YRT Electric Buses

To reduce emissions and promote sustainable transit, York Region Transit began piloting electric buses on Davis Drive in Newmarket in early 2020, aiming for a 100% electric fleet by 2050.

Respecting Your Tax Dollars

Newmarket taxes remain 10% below the GTA average. Tom is committed to maintaining high-quality services while keeping tax increases at or below the rate of inflation.

Downtown Parking Expansion

Newmarket’s award-winning summer events draw thousands of visitors, and to better accommodate both residents and out-of-town guests, over 150 new parking spaces were added at Riverwalk Commons in 2025.

Queen Street Bridge Rehabilitation

In 2025, the Queen Street Bridge between Main Street and Prospect Street was upgraded to strengthen its structure and reduce future maintenance, making it safer and more accessible for residents.

Yonge St. Expansion

To manage growth from Bradford and East Gwillimbury, York Region is widening Yonge Street to six lanes and adding a multi-use path for safer walking and cycling. Construction started in August 2025 and is expected to be complete by late 2027.

Main Street South of Davis Drive Revitalization

Tom supports plans to transform Main Street south of Davis Drive (SODA) into a lively, people-first village with shops, homes, green spaces, and public art.

Yonge/North Subway

As a Director on the York Region Rapid Transit Corporation (YRRT) Board, Tom continues to advance transportation initiatives that improve travel for Newmarket residents both locally and throughout York Region. He is currently helping oversee the $5.6 billion Yonge/North Subway extension. The fully funded first phase will bring the subway to Highway 7, with future plans to extend it north to Major MacKenzie Drive.

Tom is committed to bringing new businesses to Newmarket so that residents can live, work, and thrive in their community.

During his term, Tom has supported initiatives to strengthen Newmarket’s economy, including:

Building stronger partnerships with the Central York Chamber of Commerce.
Expanding the “Choose Local” campaign into year-round support for small businesses.
Partnering with Shorefast Institute for Place-Based Economies.
Investing in downtown Newmarket to boost retail, tourism, hospitality, and small business growth.
Continuing to attract major employers, including Costco.

Tom Vegh supports responsible growth that protects neighbourhoods & expands housing options.

In the past term, he worked with council colleagues to:

Guide development along Yonge and Davis to protect established residential neighbourhoods.
Enable additional detached units on residential properties that meet specific regulations to increase housing supply.
Defer development charges for rental housing, resulting in 500+ units added in 2026, with 800+ more planned.

Tom’s Priorities:

Keep communities safe and inclusive.
Expand rental housing for a growing population and downsizing seniors.
Oppose high-rises in established neighbourhoods.
Support York Region’s plan to focus growth in urban centres and protect farmland and sensitive lands.

Tom Vegh is committed to meeting the growing needs of seniors in York Region and pursuing opportunities to expand affordable, supportive seniors’ housing.

As a Director on Housing York Inc. (HYI), his priority has been to increase affordable housing, with a focus on seniors. He has supported key projects including:

Redevelopment of 62 Bayview Parkway, featuring 250 rental units designed to provide affordable housing options for seniors and families.
Mosaic House, a 97-unit York Region building with 70% affordable rental units for seniors and families.
