Since 2018, Tom Vegh has proudly served the Town of Newmarket as Deputy Mayor, while also representing the community as a Regional Councillor on York Region Council. With more than two decades of municipal experience, Tom brings steady leadership, deep local knowledge, and a strong commitment to responsible governance.
Proven Municipal Leadership
Tom began his public service in 2000 as Councillor-at-Large and went on to serve as Ward 1 Councillor from 2006 to 2018. Throughout his career, he has championed key community amenities, environmental initiatives, and policies that strengthen neighbourhoods and enhance Newmarket’s quality of life. His record reflects a consistent focus on accountability, collaboration, and long-term planning.

Professional Experience
Tom holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from York University and brings over 25 years of leadership experience in the non-profit sector, serving in both executive and consulting roles. He has managed multi-million-dollar budgets and worked collaboratively with all levels of government—experience that underpins his practical, fiscally responsible approach to decision-making.

A long-time Newmarket resident, Tom has been married to Angela for 38 years, and together they have raised their two children in the community they proudly call home. His commitment to Newmarket is both professional and personal, driven by a desire to see the town continue to thrive for generations to come.

Housing York Inc., Board Director
Housing York Inc., owned by York Region, provides market-rate and subsidized housing. Since 2003, it has managed 38 properties with nearly 3,200 units for 4,500+ tenants. In Newmarket, eight buildings offer 600+ affordable homes for seniors and families.
YTN Telecom Network Inc. – YorkNet, Board Director
YorkNet is a York Region-owned corporation that builds and operates a high-speed, dark fibre network across the Region. It provides a secure, parallel infrastructure to protect data systems and ensures equitable access to high-speed internet in underserved areas.
Accessibility Advisory Committee, Chair
The mandate of the York Region Accessibility Advisory Committee is to provide guidance to York Regional Council, York Regional Police, and staff regarding the implementation of Ontario’s accessibility legislation, as well as the preparation and evaluation of accessibility plans and reports.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) works to protect and restore the Lake Simcoe watershed. Since 1951, it has helped prevent flooding, conserve forests, and collaborate with the community through research, policy, and action.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) manages a budget exceeding $18 million. Most of its funding comes from municipalities, federal and provincial governments, development and other fees, fundraising, and project-specific grants.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Foundation (LSRCF) raises funds for the environmental and educational initiatives of Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority.
York Region Rapid Transit Corporation - Board Director
The York Region Rapid Transit Corporation builds and manages rapid transit projects for York Region, linking urban centres and communities. In partnership with federal and provincial governments, it is extending the Yonge Street subway to Richmond Hill.
Canadian National Exhibition Association - York Region Representative
The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is Canada’s largest community event and one of North America’s top agricultural fairs. Founded in 1879, the not-for-profit CNE offers visitors technology showcases, live entertainment, and a vibrant community celebration. Since 2018, Tom Vegh has served as York Region’s representative to the Canadian National Exhibition Association.
